Drivers 'must inform insurers of foreign usage'

Any driver from the UK intending to use their vehicle outside of the European Union must make sure their insurer is aware of their journey, it has been stated.

Personal finance service provider esure says that anyone choosing to drive elsewhere in the world without telling his or her insurer will be acting illegally.

However, those who extend their cover will be insured and can be confident of averting a personal finance disaster should they be involved in an incident on foreign roads.

Adrian Webb, head of corporate communications at the insurance firm, comments: "Unless you've let your insurer know and your insurer has agreed and logged where you are taking your car, you will be devoid of cover completely. In fact you'll be driving illegally."

Meanwhile, in related money news, the British Insurance Brokers' Association has recommended that any drivers taking their vehicle abroad ensure it has a full service before they set off.
