Be vigilant over 'frosting' crime, says Sainsbury's Car Insurance.

With temperatures expected to plunge this week, a car insurance provider has warned of the dangers of leaving your car running to warm up the engine. Sainsbury's Car Insurance estimates that over the last five years as many as 330,000 households have fallen victim to opportunistic thieves who drive off in the vehicle - a practice the firm dubs 'frosting'.
However, aside from the inconvenience of being without a vehicle, the impact of this crime on the consumer is exacerbated by the fact that many car insurance policy do not include cover for vehicles stolen in this way, Joanne Mallone, car insurance manager at Sainsbury's, warned.

She said: "Motorists must take care not to leave their vehicles vulnerable to opportunistic thieves. When it's freezing out it can be tempting to leave the engine running to speed up the defrosting process while you nip back inside to finish getting ready.
"But this could have terrible consequences and you may find that you're not insured against it."
