Friday 18th 'worst for car accidents'

Today (Friday January 18th) is the best day to leave the car at home due to the high number of accidents that tend to take place on this date.
According to insurance specialist Admiral, January 18th and Friday are the most accident-prone days but this is the first time in a number of years that the two dates have coincided.
Admiral managing director Sue Longthorn said: "It's not surprising to see that the worst day of the week for accidents is a Friday as people are tired after a long week at work.
"In terms of the 18th January being dangerous, it's difficult to say for certain why this is, but it could be that people have a lot on their mind as they haven’t been paid for a while."
She also said the dark weather, the bad weather and the post-festive lull could be contributing factors. Statistically, 29th February is the safest date, says Admiral, but only because it occurs every four years.

According to Britannia Rescue, breakdowns on January 2nd are much more likely to happen than on any other day, partly because cars have been due over the Christmas period.
