New Peugeot 3008 crossover
Peugeot 3008 a roomy crossover was reveiled today. Looking identical to the Prologue Hybrid 4 concept which was unveiled at the 2008 Paris motor show it is aiming to take on the Nissan Quasqai. Production 3008 will be Peugeot’s first hybrid vehicle, a mix between a hatchback and MPV.
The Peugeot 3008 is based on the same front-wheel-drive platform that underpins the Peugeot 308. It will be available with 1.6-litre or 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesels, and two 1.6-litre petrol engines. 3008 customers get the choice of a five or six-speed manual, a six-speed automatic and Peugeot-Citroen's six-speed automated manual gearbox. There is a new 163bhp version of Peugeot's 2.0-litre HDi engine available at top of the range.
The 3008 includes Peugeots' technology labelled 'Hybrid 4', this technology allows a four-wheel-drive option as the hybrid's electric motor drives the rear wheels.
Peugeot predicts a reduction in CO2 emissions of about 35%. The 3008 looks sleeker than most current Peugeots that's due to narrow, swept-back headlights. It still has promenant curved wheelarches and boomerang rear lights. It has a split tailgate, the lower supporting 200kg and a boot capacity of 512 litres. There's lots of swithches on the dashboard, it's has a pop-up sat-nav, an Air Quality Sensor, the handbrake is electric and if you opt for the top-spec you get Dynamic Roll Control.
The model line up for the Peugeot 3008 going on sale in the UK towards the end of 2009:
1.6-litre diesel – 110bhp with electronic six-speed manual
