Securing cheap cover has 'never been more important'

Shopping around for car and home insurance is becoming more important in the face of increasing pressure on Britons' household finances, a price comparison site has warned.

Gocompare.com was moved to issue its advice in the wake of findings showing that more and more consumers are being forced to curb their outgoings and cut down on credit card and loan debt as a result of higher repayments on mortgage debt and soaring food and energy prices.

A survey conducted by the site showed that cutting outgoings is now the number one priority of 60 per cent of consumers.

Reacting to the findings, Hayley Parsons, chief executive of the site, said: "This research shows just how worried UK consumers are about rising prices and their personal finances.

"It's never been more important to save money wherever you can and shopping around for your home and car insurance is a great way to try and save money."

Gocompare.com's poll also discovered that just one per cent of Britons are currently looking to invest in the stock market, while only four per cent are prioritising buying a house.
