UK drivers 'skimping on insurance'
Millions of Britons who take their cars abroad this year could be facing an insurance headache in the event of a crash, according to Tescocompare.com.
Research conducted by the price comparison site showed that although most policies offer some cover for driving abroad some providers will only cover UK motorists for third party damage for three days.
After this point the companies regard taking out further cover as the responsibility of the driver.
Paul Baxter of Tescocompare.com, warned that these policies tend to be those with cheaper premiums and said that the findings indicate the perils of choosing policies on price alone.
He commented: "Less expensive insurers may quote a low premium for the year, however when extra foreign cover is charged at a high rate, the savings made by drivers on the year's premium are cancelled out by the add-on items.
"And while you may think third party cover is enough, if you are involved in a shunt in a rural Spanish village, you'll soon realise that having comprehensive cover is a necessity."
