Cutting car insurance costs 'can offset petrol hikes'
Motorists can offset the impact of higher petrol costs by shopping around for cheaper car insurance, it has been claimed.
Research conducted by price comparison site Gocompare.com found that the hikes in fuel prices have left the average motorist with a petrol-driven car around £196 worse off over the last 12 months.
However, by shopping around for their car insurance cover, the site claims, drivers could save £222 - effectively offsetting the higher prices.
Hayley Parsons from Gocompare.com said: "The case for switching car insurers is compelling enough at the best of times but with motorists facing increased costs you have to look to save money where you can.
"Checking your renewal price by using an insurance comparison site is one of the quickest and easiest ways to try and save money."
She added: "And saving money doesn't mean cutting corners either - drivers can see at a glance if they will be able to match their existing cover while getting a cheaper premium."
