Many drivers 'forgetting about headlights'

In excess of 50 per cent of British drivers have admitted to forgetting to use headlights when they were needed at least once in the last year.

Research conducted by personal finance provider esure reveals that more than four million drivers are unaware of the sidelights on their vehicles, while more than 2.5 million have never switched on their fog lights.

Such figures could have serious implications for car insurance premiums, as it could increase the likelihood of having an accident.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, comments: "As the nights become longer and darker, it is essential that motorists use their headlights properly while driving."

In related money news, swiftcover.com has published research suggesting that the drive to work is the most stressful regular journey undertaken by one in eight drivers.

It also discovered that fresh air and listening to the radio were the most popular tactics for cooling the nerves.
