Insignia Scoops Europe's No.1
Vauxhall's Insignia has scooped 'European Car of the Year' title. It has to be said however that they won the title by a difference of only one vote. Insignia beat newest Fiesta car by only a single point. Vauxhall take the title from the Fiat which won in 2007.
Vauxhall last won the title back in 1987 with the Carlton, which on the continent was badged the Opel Omega.
Volkswagen's Golf MkV1 came in third position out of a total of 37 cars that were entered for the award. There were a total of seven cars shortlisted, these included the Alfa Romeo MiTo and Citroen's C5.
Cars entered into the competition had to be available to buy in at least five European countries before they qualified to be entered.
