Auto Windscreens commended in prestigious Manufacturer Awards
Auto Windscreens' factory has been commended in the prestigious Manufacturer Awards 2008 held on 15th October at Excel in London. The commendation was received in the World Class Manufacturing Award category.
The commendation for Auto Windscreens' windscreen manufacturing operation has been recognised as a fantastic achievement by the business. The company was commpeting against some of the leading manufacturers in the UK, Europe and the World.
Auto Windscreens employs 61 people, the factory is based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. They produce a quarter of a million windscreens each year and they can boast an unbroken accident record of 600 days without a lost time accident to date.
The factory produces more than 870 different types of windscreen and has also been commended by the Environment Agency for reducing all waste by 30% and recycling 100% of all cardboard, glass, paper, plastic, wood and metal since 2007.
Abu-Haris Shafi, Managing Director of Auto Windscreens explained: "To achieve a commendation is nothing short of excellent for a business whose core function is not manufacturing. We are rightly proud of our windscreen manufacturing operation and are delighted that the Manufacturer Awards' judges recognised what we have achieved over the past year as being world class."
The World Class Manufacturing Award recognises companies that best demonstrate that they are reaching for world class manufacturing standards by benchmarking and examining things like lead times, customer returns, work content, labour minutes per unit, inventory levels and cycle times, and taking action to improve them. Additionally it recognises companies that have already made significant, sustained progress towards being world class, and those who have made the commitment and got off to an impressive start.
