Haug: Singapore premiere will be most exciting
Mercedes-Benz Motorsport vice president Norbert Haug believes the premiere for this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix will be the "most exciting" in formula one history.
Never been done before, the formula one drivers will race for the first time at night, on public roads and passing some of the nation’s most striking landmarks such as the historic Anderson Bridge and Raffles Boulevard.
The atmosphere will be electric, some 23 corners await the drivers on each lap.
Haug said: "We look forward to the atmosphere of this first night race. About 1,500 extremely powerful light projectors have been installed four metres apart around the about five-kilometre long track, and they are said to illuminate the track brightly in this unusual environment.”
"This premiere will certainly be the most exciting in formula one history -in the middle of the night, in the middle of the metropolis."
The Singapore Grand Prix represents the fifth street race on the formula one calendar, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton goes into the race leading the drivers’ championship by one point
